Political Activism
Sooooooooooo frustrated, she could feel the frustration pumping through her veins. As the nervous energy consumed her every move she exercised in an attempt to expel the frustration. She wanted to complain but couldn’t decide who to complain to and couldn’t decide what to complain about. She could feel her self re-entering the political arena and wanted the corruptness of the British Government to stop.
She wanted people with mental health needs to be supported more, and all she wanted was someone to listen to what she had to say. Instead her words would float as they usually did, in cyber space wanting to be acknowledged, wanting to be heard, needing to be seen to become a somebody or something more than just a housewife more than an alcoholic, more than a stupid person with a talent. Only she wasn’t sure what her talent was as she had grown as a child with little self esteem unable to love who she truly was and always wanting to be the person she was not.
Never being accepted, never feeling accepted, never wanting more than a humble life and if anyone has watched Britain’s Got Talent, you’ll know that she was thinking of Susan Boyle, who went from reject to accepted overnight. Starved of oxygen at birth and spending a lifetime with learning difficulties can leave one feeling isolated from the rest of the world. The majority of people with mental health needs have learning difficulties and it has become apparent that Susan Boyle has had little emotional support throughout her humble life, hence a visit to The Priory to restablise her Self. A quick fix treatment centre is not going to solve her deep seated emotional turmoil overnight and it could take a life time of therapy to resolve any emotional and social needs she may have. The lady who loves to sing we need to find a new place in this crazy world, somewhere where she will continue to feel safe but at the same time continue with something she loves to do, sing. She has put mental health on the agenda, it will be interesting to see how her story transpires.
